"Wonderful indeed it is to subdue the mind so difficult to
subdue, ever swift and seizing whatever it desires.
A tamed mind brings happiness."
SaraSangha is an insight (vipassana) meditation group. Our practice follows the teachings of the Buddha as taught in the tradition of Theravada Buddhism. We welcome both new and experienced practitioners.
We meet for the purpose of meditating as a group, providing each other with support and encouragement, forming friendships, gaining knowledge and understanding through Dharma readings and talks, sharing information, and discussing experiences and insights as we grow in mindfulness. We aim to use the ancient teachings of the Buddha to positively affect our personal lives, the lives of those around us, and our global community as a whole.
SaraSangha maintains a non-hierarchical, peer-led organizational structure with rotating facilitators so that all members are able to fully engage with the teachings and participate within the group.
Meetings are held every 2nd and 4th Sunday, 4:00 - 6:00 PM, at the Library of the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3975 Fruitville Rd, Sarasota, FL 34232. Cushions and chairs are available. A donation (dana) of $5 is suggested to help pay for the use of the facility.
We generally spend the first few minutes catching up and settling in, followed by a silent meditation. A topic will be presented and a discussion will follow.
From time to time SaraSangha will host special events, Dharma talks, and half-day and day-long retreats here in Sarasota.
The SaraSangha Insight Meditation Group was started in 2010 for the purpose of finding friends on the Path and to create a space for people to gather and practice together. May the fruits of our practice be of benefit to all beings everywhere!
